A Gift at Bulli at a much shorter price Written by: Jeff Collerson

Brother's Gift has been sent out at big odds for each of three successive wins since March 31 but is set to start favourite after drawing box one in Saturday night's Ladbrokes Live Streaming Stakes, a fourth and fifth grade 472m event at Bulli.

After winning a double at Goulburn as a $31 and a $45 chance, the Ellen O'Brien owned and trained bitch led throughout to win a 400m fifth grade from box one at Bulli last Saturday, this time at $7.50.

Although she is stepping up in distance, Brother's Gift's form at Goulburn, especially when she won over 440m on April 7, suggests she will have no trouble handling this week's additional Bulli 72m.

When she won at Goulburn, from box five, Brother's Gift settled in fourth position on the rails and after trailing the three pacemakers on the home turn, roared along the rails to win comfortably from the talented Bronze Key.

Brother's Gift is bred on stout lines, being by Ritza Lenny from Withcott Miracle, whose half brother Bogie Bekim won the 2017 group 1 Sky Racing Galaxy over 715m at Perth's Cannington.

Most anticipated "duel'' on Saturday night looms as the clash between unbeaten Utah Ghost in box one and Nangar Kane, a certainty beaten when second over 472m at Bulli last week, in box two in the Southern Engine Reconditioning Stakes over 515m.

Utah Ghost led throughout to win over 400m at Bulli on debut on April 11, put in a repeat performance to score over 472m in a brilliant 26.23 a week later, and wasn't headed in clocking a smart 29.00 at his 515m debut on April 25.

Nangar Kane had box eight when the unluckiest runner of the night last Saturday at Bulli, bungling the start and being skittled when fourth, and finishing fast, on the home turn.

The Neville Brown-trained Nangar Kane was beaten just over a length into second place, and Brown is happier with the dog's inside box this week.

"He is definitely better suited in box two than he was from box eight last Saturday,'' Brown said.

"It was blowing a gale last week and the wind was so loud at the starting boxes I could not hear the lure approaching.

"If you look at the replay Nangar Kane was actually blown towards the rails at the top of the straight.

"I have a big opinion of this dog but he had such a hard run last Saturday I have had to keep him on the lead this week.

"I usually like to give Nangar Kane a hit-out on Tuesdays but he was still getting over last week so he will go fresh into Saturday night's race.

"He will be hard to beat, but the dog in box one, Utah Ghost, is a real hot prospect.''

Mottza, who will be chasing his 34th win from 77 starts when he makes his Bulli debut in Saturday's 400m Ladbrokes Info Hub Free-For-All, has not trialled at the track.

Jackson Chaker, whose mother Patricia trains Mottza, said: "Mottza has never seen Bulli but that won't worry him.

"He is such an experienced dog and has gone like a rocket on every track where we have taken him, including those he had not been on before.

"Saturday night will be a good pipe opener for Mottza because we want to step him up to 472m at Bulli on Saturday week and then get him ready to race over 520m at Wentworth Park.''

Must Do had no luck when fourth and fifth in two Bulli starts in March and the Christine Oldfield-trained dog looks Saturday night's best value bet despite his box four draw in the 400m Ladbrokes Cash Out Stakes.

Must Do found trouble when prominent in each of his most recent Bulli outings but jumped better and took an early lead before winning over 440m at Goulburn, after crossing to the rails from box seven, on May 1.
